According to the Iowa State Patrol accident report, on September 17, 2009 in Muscatine County, Rhonda Levsen driving Northbound on Zachary Ave failed to stop at the 171st St. intersection. Levsen’s Chevy Impala landed in the north ditch. This 49-year-old Montpelier resident was not wearing a seatbelt and was taken to the Ames Hospital and the investigation is still under way on the accident.

When someone is revealed as not wearing a seatbelt, I don't find it hard to extrapolate that their other driving habits would likely land them in a ditch. If you don't care enough about your personal safety to do the ONE thing that would make the MOST difference, why would you be concerned about watching your speed, coming to a complete stop at stop signs--or even watching for them? Why pay attention to the road, if you aren't going to pay attention to your seatbelt?
