The Iowa City Press-Citizen reported Doug Hart, an Iowa City police officer was struck and injured as he swept up debris in an intersection. This is an example of a driver clearly being distracted while driving her minivan.

The women said the impact tossed Hart back several feet, slamming him into the pavement. Drea said he got up momentarily before falling back onto the curb. Hart was easily seen in the intersection before being hit, she added.

Anyone who drives sees this kind of thing going on every day. People aren't paying attention to driving but to cell phone calls and text messaging. Now I'm not saying this woman was doing any of that as she drove but she had to be distracted by something.
