Charlotte, North Carolina – July 2009 - I-85 is the scene of this chase by state troopers attempting to stop a DUI driver for over 20-miles in a 2008 Honda. The driver was spotted at around 1:30 a.m. in Charlotte’s University City area.
Santa Rosa, California – July 2009 – Highway 101, the wrong-way driver was arrested on suspicion of OWI. The time was around 5:40 p.m. The driver made two attempts to make a u-turn and each time to reenter the highway the wrong way. The driver was 46-years-old.
Denver, Colorado – July 2009 – A 21-year-old driver was killed after driving the wrong-way on I-225 and colliding with a skyRide bus. The collision occurred at 1:48 a.m. near Aurora. The cause of this wrong-way is not obvious. The force of the impact with the bus drove the Taurus backward about 250 feet into the median.
Police Sgt. Kevin Rollins said that moments before the collision, a Colorado Department of Transportation employee spotted Gordon standing outside her Ford Taurus in the median of I-225, just south of East Yale Avenue. The employee, who was in a marked CDOT vehicle, turned on his flashing lights and was driving up to assist her when Gordon jumped back into her car and drove north in the southbound lanes of I-225.
Rollins said Gordon accelerated quickly and had driven about 500 feet when she crashed into the bus.
