Running a red light or not stopping for a stop sign is something people do that has always baffled me. It must be like shoplifting; once you start it's hard to stop wanting to feel the thrill of the moment. Some maybe accidental like if a tree limb is hiding the warning sign or light. But far too many appear to be questionable judgment on the part of the driver. Of course the consequences of not obeying a traffic light or sign can be graver than one might think of in the split second it takes. In the news over the last two days are two very serious collisions caused by a red light runner. In Marion you have five teens injured in the early morning when the SUV in which they were riding ran a stoplight and was t-boned by a semi-tractor trailer truck. Everyone, even the semi-truck driver were taken to area hospitals. Then in Des Moines a driver on Grand Avenue failed to stoop at a red light and collided with a Nissan Sentra traveling north on Eighth Street. Two drivers were reported to have been injured. It's really shouldn't be necessary to state the obvious here, should it?
