Sharing our legal experience in September - How to be a Client

I’ve persuaded a few fellow members of the Injuryboard to join me over the next few weeks to write a series of articles about being a client. The writers include: Wayne Parsons, Devon Glass, Mike Bryant, Rick Shapiro and Pierce Egerton. They can cover the day’s post in any order they choose, but all six attorneys will be contributing their knowledge and experience (understanding) to exploring these important client issues for the benefit of our client readers. Of course some of you won’t find this useful at the present but may in the future, and of course it will be there for you to then read. Come join us, I know Mike Bryant isn’t entirely comfortable with the format and he may choose a different line of attack.

1. What should I bring to first meet with the lawyer?

2. What makes my case good or bad?

3. What are interrogatories and how do I answer them?

4. What is a deposition and how do I get ready for it?

5. What is my case worth? or How do I know what my case is worth?

6. Why is the insurance company so friendly to me?

7. Should I give the insurance company a recorded statement?

One more thing, we could use another attorney to join in writing on the seventh day. As you can see right now we have six days per week covered, with one attorney writing each day, leaving Sunday open. Right now our experience is diverse and covers from North Carolina,, Hawaii, Minnesota (Go Iowa beat the Gophers!), Iowa, Virginia and Michigan. We could use a California’ or some other south or northwestern legal mind to join us. New England is also not being covered and that would help round out the experience. So if you’re out there and not too busy to write a blog or two drop me a line. (sdlombardi@aol.com or 515-222-1110.) We’d love to have you join us.

Please come and enjoy the discussion about being a client.

Wayne started with the first post titled, I was in an automobile accident. What should I do? Ten Tips For Hawaii Drivers on September 14, 2009 - 3:59 AM EST. I'll post my own, later today.

Nice start to the new series. Overall, I do think the idea is a great one, but my concern which you point out is when people are already represented. So I think I will be writing about how to take your deposition or answer your interrogatories. I get calls pretty regularly from people that are represented already and for the most part I suggest they write down all their questions and sit down with the lawyer they hired and get answers. If they still can't work it out I will meet with them and review their file.
While I agree that our overall goal is making sure everyone is informed as possible and that injured people aren't abused by plaintiff claims adjusters that really only care about the money, I still think those are questions they should ask their lawyer, who better have the answers.
