Reuters reports U.S. Health officials found melamine in infant formula sold within the United States.

NEWS SOURCES - Reuters OR Market Watch OR

Agri News from Minnesota. - Minnesota Department of Agriculture warned again that certain cookies tested contained the industrial chemical melamine. There are three brands of Wonderfarm brand cookies sold in Minnesota -- "Royal Flavour Biscuits," "Lovely Melody Biscuits" and "Daily Life Biscuits" -- have tested positive for melamine.

Previous warnings include Wonderfarm "Successful" cookies that had been tested and were found to contain melamine.

Wonderfarm makes a varied line of food products. The Wonderfarm website indicates they will sell product to stores with the stores name on the packaging. So the cookies and other product may not be sold with Wonderfarm on the package. There are updates on the melamine situation on the site.

Melamine Found in US Products Could be Distraction from Problems with China

Genevieve: I agree the Chinese Government may attempt to distract the U.S. Government by expanding the issues but food contamination is really an issue they can not afford to ignore. Neither government can afford to ignore this problem. To do so would be to create such distrust with products coming from that country that consumers simply stop buying those products. China's threats or attempts to distract by saying they will send inspectors to American ports is disingenuous at best and ultimately will cost them dearly by creating a greater distrust of “Made in China” by the American consumer. By allowing government policy to appear retaliatory while ignoring the real problem sends the wrong signal not just to America but to the world. The melamine problem is larger and wider than just the American markets. After all they have the melamine problem, not American industry. They are failing to police Chinese manufacturers who are purposefully adding the contamination to food.

I believe you and I agree on this subject and can add to the readers understanding of the problem and perhaps how to avoid being exposed to the melamine risk. Nice post by the way.

Thanks for bringing the subject of Melamine to a more understandable level for the consumer. I hope the Obama administration will put more emphasis on regulating health risks.
