Is US Cellular’s poor service to blame for the death of a Clear Lake man? Ann Poole has filed a lawsuit in Cerro Gordo County District Court alleging that on May 18th, 2008 she dialed 911 from her US Cellular cell phone after her husband, Rick Pool, went into cardiac arrest and was incorrectly routed to a call center in Cedar Rapids. She is claiming that the lost time due to the incorrect transfer contributed to the death of her husband. In cardiac arrest situations minutes can be the difference between life and death, could it in this situation have been the difference between living and dying? I'm guessing that's the issue to be decided at the trial. Can U.S. Cellular afford to have that question answered?

Should elderly people be concerned with what cell phone provider they use? I'd like to see the transcripts from depositions; they might answer a lot of questions that rural Iowans would find interesting.

They tell us one thing but is it all true? Advertising can be so misleading.

Nice assumption Steve. In fact US Cellular has some of the best wireless service in Iowa. What's next, if the Ambulance was stalled on their way due to an accident that she sues the people who caused the accident, or if there was road construction on the route to the hospital that she sues the town for doing road construction?

People who don't use their legal names are normally associated with special interest groups trying to sell a dream that doesn't exist. To deflect, rather than to respond factually, their modus operandi is to point to the legal profession attacking with name calling. Mr. Bones your statement is no different than most. What you should know is that I'm reporting a personal injury news item; not taking a position either against or in favor. Of course you knee jerked to this report, which shows you didn't really read the article, you just don't like anyone picking on US Cellular. Your reactive argument is a fact that exposes your special interest. If you have some special knowledge how about talking about routing issues or rerouting issues and possible explanations of what might have occurred.

very honestly steve there needs to be a limit on liability. americans in general will use any reason to sue someone. it's out of control.

Dleg: There already are limits on liability. Injured people have to prove liability based on known causes of action. If they do that they have to show the cause is related to the injury and then the extent of their injury. There are more limits than you might realize. I wonder if there should be more limits on corporate greed and ripoffs with selling crappy products that don't work as they are intended or sold. How much do the cell phone CEO's get in bonuses? And you're worried about one lawsuit about one dead person? Is it because the man's life isn't important to you or because the cell phone stream of income is a part of our national econimic insecurity?
