I’ve covered direct marketing to patients by the pharmaceutical industry in a previous post. I was critical that other countries don’t allow marketing directly to patients and that by doing so it creates a market influenced by patients pressuring physicians for drugs they might otherwise never take. This post on DTC ran on December 22, 2008.

Does big business view human life as a commodity that is bought, sold and disposed of?
“Human capital wears out.”
That was a statement made to me as a lawyer by an economist. I think it does envision human life as something like a machine that does work and is depreciated over time. Life is becoming depreciated or devalued; at death you've just fully depreciated. The more we allow large businesses to run our lives the less our lives are worth.
An old college buddy forwarded some links saying as a lawyer I might enjoy watching them. Well forget the lawyer part, as a parent, husband and grandfather I appreciate the message. I did watch them and then began to wonder what they say about society in general. Watch these videos and ask yourself if this makes sense to you and is there a groundswell or backlash occurring against the industry? I have to wonder if the American public isn’t wising up to how industry research is manipulated to filter out the adverse results, all for the sake of that billion dollar per year drug.

One has to wonder, is there a groundswell surging against prescription drugs being over prescribed through things like testing that is manipulated by dishonest doctors taking cash to act as Big Pharma’s cheerleaders?
You be the judge.
