In a recent report released by the Annie E. Casey Foundation, Iowa was ranked number seven out of all U.S. states for "taking care of its children." This annual Kids Count report ranks each state in ten categories.

Among these categories are child death rate and number of teens who are not in school or working. Iowa tied for first with Nebraska and Utah in the category regarding children living in families with a parent in full-time employment.

Iowa is in the top ten in the teen death rate, infant mortality rate, percentage of teens who attend school or work and percentage of children in single-parent families.

Among the categories in which Iowa did not rank as well are the number of low-birth weight babies, child death rate, teen birth rate, and children living in poverty.
