Darcy Schehr, a woman from Wisconsin, has been charged with "homicide by intoxicated use of a motor vehicle." In a collision on Sunday, July 15, Schehr lost control of her vehicle on Highway 60, crossed the center line and hit a motorcycle. The motorcyclist, 40-year old Daniel Christ of Iowa City who was wearing a helmet, was killed. Schehr suffered no injuries.
Important in any collision is a timely and thorough investigation. The investigation should be conducted immediately so that statements of all witnesses can be obtained with their memories are fresh. If the driver was driving while intoxicated the injured party may be entitled to punitive damages and an award of $150,000.00 under state criminal laws.

You know something there is a lot of mis leading information here. For starters She didn't lose control of her vehicle She actually fell a sleep. Second did you for get to add in that Her las drink was at 11:30PM the night before. Yes she was still over the limit But here is a GREAT reason why People need more Information on Alcohol and its effects. It is really sad what has happened to both parties and I pray for them both But the truth of the matter is There are a lot of people who do the same thing. And we all need to know what the effects of alcohol have even the next morning............
I agree with Tanya, this is a tradegy for all involved. Not only is one person dead, but another young woman's life will never be the same. People need to know that alcohol does stay in your system for longer than you think and if you are a petite woman it takes even longer for your BAC to reach the legal limit. I am praying for Daniel's family and Darcy and her family.
A LOT of misleading information? Did you read the article? She is 21 and her BAC was over the legal limit. She was drunk and she killed someone. What additional information do you need?
Wrong again she is not 21 See what I mean Misleading information. The press doesn't even have the correct information.
Tradedy for both parties??? For the poor guy on the bike, yes... but she made her bed when she drank, then drove... yeah, it was 8 hours earlier, but, still, you can't feel bad for her... she took someones life because she couldn't control her drinking... society is better off with her locked away...
Whether Darcy is 21, 30, or 72, the fact remains that her BAC was 0.12%. The legal limit in Wisconsin is 0.08%. So whether or not she really had stopped drinking at 11:30 p.m. the night before like she claims, the BAC was over the legal limit at the time of the accident. I think that is sufficient evidence to prove this woman was driving drunk, don't you?
Sorry I didn't respond earlier, I've been outside the country and this is my first opportunity to review them. Emotions aside, drinking and driving don't mix and when they are, there are serious legal consequences to those offending those rules. Death of anyone, whether the "drunk" or the victim is a tragedy for both sets of families. And all the excuses aside for the offender, she drove after drinking and her BAC was over the legal limit. Make excuses for her if you must, but the law won't. It's that simple.
All of your information is misleading. I live in the area and my brother was actually one of the first to respond to the scene after the call. The witness driving in front of her stated that she tried to pass. She did not fall asleep at the wheel. She is not 21, she is 27. And if she really had her last drink at 11:30p.m, her BAC would not have been that high.
Michelle, I would invite your brother being one of the first on the scene to respond, to add his own comments to this blog. Obviously you prove one point that I make over and over and over again on this site and that's that all witnesses need to be interviewed as early as is possible. They have the best personal knowledge of what happened and the sooner they commit that recollection to a statement the better for all involved. If he saw her attempting to pass that would probably be an important fact for everyone to know, as opposed to speculating the driver fell asleep. Thanks for your comment and I look forward to hearing from your brother.
