Jet skiing is a fun way to spend an afternoon. But unlike cars, jet skis operate on water where there are no clearly marked roads and signs telling you when to stop or yield. In this instance the two drivers failed to avoid colliding, crashed and the driver of one was saved by her passenger. The life vest she was wearing may have ultimately saved her life. According to the Des Moines Register story, D.M. woman injured after jet ski collision:

Kasey Aiken, 27, suffered multiple injuries when her jet ski made a turn and collided with the jet ski of Melisande Hinds, 20, of Des Moines about 2:30 p.m. south of the marina at Saylorville Lake, according to the Iowa Department of Natural Resources.
Hinds' passenger and sister, Michaella Hinds, 17, of Carlisle found Aiken floating face down in the water and not breathing. Michaella turned her over and gave her mouth-to mouth resuscitation.

Be safe, be smart and think about how fast you're driving. In this instance the young woman was lucky. ©
