Motorcycles are difficult enough for drivers to see, but add bulky farm machinery to the already busy roads and we have to wonder if that is a reason for seeing more motorcycle accidents. Also the field cover is being cleared so and that may increase deer movement across highways. Is the fall a time when motorcyclists need to be even more cautious? Two truckers didn't win out on Cleveland Road, just east of the I-80 interchange as they crashed causing one of Henry County's busiest roads to be shut down for more than one hour. The semi ended up on its side and in someone's yard. That driver walked away from the collision. The truck driver wasn't so lucky and had to be airlifted to the hospital. Jaws of Life had to be used. In Iowa its fall and that means crops coming out of the fields and being delivered to elevators. It also means an increase in collisions and deaths. State officials warn all drivers on the roads to be more aware of farm equipment, to slow it down, to watch closely as you top a hill and to look on each side towards fields and gates to see equipment coming out or going in. Stay back from slow...

Just because it's never happened to you don't take that semi-truck load in front of you for granted. It may not be as secure as you believe. If the load on a truck falls off, as it did on Lu Ann Kleemeyer, it is the trucking company and driver that are responsible. Of course the insurance company will certainly blame you for not paying enough attention.Car and other vehicles following a truck...

It was reported earlier today that an Orange City, Iowa man was killed when his truck was struck by another semitruck that pulled out from a stop sign. The Vandermeulen semi went into a ditch rolled and he died. One comment blames the death on Vandermeulen not wearing a seat belt but that is unfair and not according to the law. It's not Vandermeulen's fault the other driver did not obey the law....

Drive safely, wear your seat belt, watch where you want to go, where you are and pay attention to what is going on around you. Don't be in a hurry, or distracted. Cell phones, iPods, etc. are certainly nice gadgets but are becoming a major source of accidents. When teenagers, excited over graduation and the attendant celebrations, gather in a moving vehicle it is easy to become distracted. The...
