Iowa has it's own wind farm and more seem to be planned. Workers at the wind farms need to be careful. In Oregon a worker was killed when a giant turbine collapsed. One worker on the structure and another inside were killed and injured.

A spokesman for Siemens (SEE'-menz), which manufactured and owns the tower, says the two were doing routine inspections Saturday when the tower collapsed at the Klondike III wind project in wheat fields near Wasco.

Wind turbines can be over 300 feet tall and the blades can cover a rotating diameter of almost that same distance. Iowa has wind farms in Adair (Schafer Systems), Storm Lake (Storm Lake Wind) and Spirit Lake (Flying Cloud). The one in Adair is 89 feet, Storm Lake 164 feet and Spirit Lake 230 feet tall. More wind projects exist in Iowa and more are planned. One being proposed would cover 40,000 acres in Franklin County.

These work places are no different than factory settings. Workers compensation laws still apply.
