In February 2006, two young girls were killed in a Lakeland, Florida car accident. The family of one of the girls, 9-year old Morgan Bryant, was recently awarded almost $45 million in the wrongful death and personal injury case that they brought to trial. About $40 million of the awarded money was for personal injury; the remaining $5 million for wrongful death.

Morgan's mother, Carla Bryant, was driving the pickup truck that the two young girls were in. The pickup was struck by a large commercial truck driven by John Robert Mitchell, causing the death of Morgan and the other girl, 8-year old Brittany. Carla suffered serious injuries and thus was awarded the $40 million for "permanent injuries and mental anguish." Lou Williams, who has practiced law since 1969, says that he has never heard of a personal injury case that ended in an award of $40 million.
